How can I tell if my pool is leaking or evaporation?

What is allowable for evaporation?

Unfortunately there is no magic number or standard formula. There are many different variables in play that determine evaporation rates.

Variables:

Environmental conditions (i.e. Wind)
Water features (Spa spillway, Sheer Descents, Fan Jets, etc.)
Heating features (Heater, Heat Pump, Solar Panels)
Screen enclosure
Pool Interior finish
Tile selection (Amount of grout being used)
Rocks used for water features or as tile coping
Evaporation can range from 1/8 in. to 1/4 in. per day depending on the variables mentioned above.

Lately I have had to add a lot more salt to my saltwater pool than usual. Why?

This can be an indication of a leak, as the constant water loss can cause your pool’s salt content to quickly go out of balance.

We have got air bubbles coming into the pool. Is this a problem?

We receive a lot of phone calls asking the same question. Air bubbles can be caused by problems with your equipment, such as cracked gaskets around the suction side of your pump. However, if you have determined that your equipment is all in good repair, it is possible that you are pulling air in from a broken pipe underground. If you have to add water frequently, then your pool is leaking.

I have got algae growing in my pool, although I keep adding chlorine. What’s going on?
